Cricket Betting With Crypto From Ghana: Formats, Markets, Rain Rules and a USDT Bankroll Plan

Cricket isn't the first sport most of us think about in Ghana, my brother, but it's one of the biggest betting sports on the planet, and crypto sportsbooks price a lot of it. If you've watched the IPL on a stream, or you have friends from India, Pakistan or the Caribbean who never stop talking about it, this guide will get you comfortable. We'll cover how the formats work, what the markets mean, the strange rain and tie rules that confuse beginners, and how to run a small USDT bankroll without getting carried away.
18+ only. This is general information, not a tip. Cloudbet, the crypto sportsbook we link to, holds a Curaçao licence and is not licensed by the Gaming Commission of Ghana. See our guide to betting legality in Ghana.

Cricket in two minutes
Two teams of eleven take turns to bat and bowl. The batting side scores runs; the bowling side tries to get batters "out". Each team's turn to bat is an innings. The team with more runs wins, as long as the match finishes properly.
The key thing for betting is that cricket comes in very different formats, and each one behaves like almost a different sport:
| Format | Length | What it's like for betting |
|---|---|---|
| T20 | 20 overs per side, about 3–4 hours | Fast, high-variance, lots of upsets; the most bet-on format |
| ODI (One Day International) | 50 overs per side, a full day | More balanced; class tells more often |
| Test match | Up to five days, two innings each | Slow; draws are possible; weather and pitch matter hugely |
| The Hundred and other short formats | 100 balls per side (The Hundred) | Even shorter, even more random |
An "over" is six legal balls. When people say "T20", they mean 120 balls per side. Short formats reward aggressive batting and are where most crypto cricket betting happens.
The competitions worth knowing
- Indian Premier League (IPL). The biggest franchise T20 league, usually played from around March to May. Massive betting volume and lots of information available.
- ICC events. The T20 World Cup, the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship final. These are international, with national teams.
- Other franchise leagues. Australia's Big Bash, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Pakistan Super League, SA20 in South Africa, The Hundred in England and more.
- Bilateral series. Two countries playing a set of Tests, ODIs or T20s against each other.
Ghana itself plays in ICC Africa competitions at associate level, but these games get thin pricing and little coverage, so treat any market on them with extra caution.
What time are matches in Ghana?
Ghana runs on GMT all year, which makes cricket timing easy to work out. India is GMT+5:30, so IPL evening games that start around 7:30 p.m. in India usually start around 2:00 p.m. in Accra, and afternoon double-header games start around 10:00 a.m. Ghana time. Australian games often land in your early morning or overnight, and English games run through your afternoon. Check the exact time for each match, because schedules change.
The main cricket betting markets
| Market | What it means |
|---|---|
| Match winner | Which team wins. In Tests, there may be a third option: the draw. |
| Toss winner | Who wins the coin toss. A pure 50/50 with margin taken out. Skip it. |
| Top team batter | Which player scores most runs for a team. |
| Top team bowler | Which bowler takes most wickets for a team. |
| Innings runs (over/under) | Total runs a team scores in its innings, e.g. over 172.5. |
| Runs in first 6 overs (powerplay) | Total runs in the opening overs of an innings. |
| Total sixes / fours | Over/under on boundaries in the match. |
| Player runs | Over/under on a specific batter's runs. |
| Method of first dismissal | Caught, bowled, LBW, run out, stumped. |
| Outright / tournament winner | Who wins the whole league or tournament. |
Not every sportsbook offers every market, and the names vary. Always check the rules attached to each market before you bet.
Rain, ties and other settlement rules
This is where cricket confuses beginners most.
- Rain-shortened games. In limited-overs cricket (T20 and ODI), if rain cuts overs, a formula called Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) adjusts the target. Most books settle match winner bets on the official result, including DLS results, as long as a minimum number of overs are bowled. If not, the match may be declared "no result" and bets are usually void.
- Innings runs and player runs in a rain-affected match often follow special rules: some books void them if overs are reduced, others settle if the innings was completed. Read the market rules.
- Ties. In T20s, a tie is often decided by a "Super Over". Many books settle match winner on the team that wins the Super Over, but rules differ. Check before betting on close games.
- Test draws. If a Test is drawn and you backed one team, you lose, unless the market was "draw no bet".
- Player not playing. If a player you backed in a player market isn't in the final eleven, bets are usually void. If they play but don't bat, rules vary.
Reading the toss and the pitch
Cricket is one of the few sports where conditions can matter as much as team quality.
- The toss. The winning captain chooses to bat or bowl first. In some grounds and conditions, chasing at night is easier because dew makes the ball wet and hard to grip for bowlers. Prices can shift a lot after the toss.
- The pitch. A flat, hard pitch favours batters and big totals. A dry, cracked pitch helps spin bowlers. A green, grassy pitch helps fast bowlers early. Pitch reports before the match are worth reading.
- Ground size. Small grounds mean more sixes. Big ones mean fewer.
- Weather. Cloud and humidity can help swing bowling. Rain brings DLS into play.
A simple habit: wait for the toss and the confirmed teams before betting innings totals or player markets. You'll know far more than you did an hour earlier.
Implied probability in cedis
As with any sport, turn the price into a probability: 1 ÷ odds. If a team is 1.65 to win a T20, the book implies about 60.6%. The other team at 2.30 implies about 43.5%. Together that's 104.1%, so the book's margin is about 4%.
T20 is a volatile format. Even a much stronger side loses fairly often, because one great batting innings or one collapse can decide it in a few overs. That's why heavy favourites in T20 are often poor value, and why accumulators of T20 favourites are risky.
Example: stake the USDT equivalent of GH₵150 on a team at 2.30. If they win, you get GH₵345 back (GH₵195 profit). If not, you lose GH₵150.
Top batter and top bowler markets, with an example
These markets ask which single player will lead their team in runs or wickets. They pay bigger prices than match winners because there are eleven possible answers, and they're popular because they're fun to follow ball by ball.
The batting order matters most for top batter. Openers and the number three get the most balls in a T20, so they win this market more often. A big-hitting number six might be exciting, but if the top order bats well he may only face a handful of balls. For top bowler, look for bowlers who usually bowl their full four overs in a T20 and who suit the pitch: spinners on dry surfaces, fast bowlers on grassy ones or under lights.
Say an opener is priced at 4.50 to be top team batter, which implies about 22%. If he's been top scorer in roughly a quarter to a third of his team's recent matches on similar pitches, the price might be fair or slightly generous. Check how the market settles ties (two players on the same score), because many books use "dead heat" rules that cut your payout.

Outrights: patience pays
Betting on who wins the whole IPL or World Cup ties your money up for weeks, but prices before the tournament can be generous on teams with strong squads and good fixture lists. If you bet outrights, do it early, keep the stake small, and don't add to it every time your team wins a game. Remember that most knockout formats in short cricket are close to coin flips once you reach the playoffs.
A sensible way to start
- Pick one competition, probably the IPL, and follow it properly for a few weeks before betting much.
- Learn the venues. Which grounds produce big totals? Where does dew matter?
- Track team news. Overseas player availability and injuries change franchise teams a lot.
- Bet after the toss for totals and player markets.
- Keep stakes small on T20 match winners because of the variance.
- Record your bets and check after 30 or 40 whether your read beats the prices.
Live cricket betting
Cricket is made for in-play betting because every ball is a natural pause. Prices move after each wicket or boundary. That speed is a trap if you're betting on emotion, and streams can run behind the live data feed that bookmakers use, so you won't beat the market by reacting to what you see. If you bet live, do it at natural breaks, like the end of the powerplay or between innings, when you can think properly.
Funding with crypto from Ghana
The usual route is MoMo to USDT through a reputable P2P trader, then deposit to the book. Keep these rules:
- Use a stablecoin so your bankroll doesn't swing with crypto prices during a long tournament.
- Match the network exactly. TRON address, TRON transfer. Wrong network can mean lost funds.
- Send a small test to any new deposit address.
- Count fees. P2P spreads plus network fees in and out are a real cost.
- Never release crypto in a P2P trade before the MoMo money has actually arrived.
Our guide to betting crypto on sports covers the whole flow.
Bankroll plan for a cricket season
Set a season budget in cedis, say GH₵1,000 for an IPL season, which has plenty of matches over a couple of months. That's a lot of games, so stakes must be small to last.
| Bet type | Suggested stake |
|---|---|
| Match winner, after research | 1–2% (GH₵10–20) |
| Innings runs after toss | 1–2% |
| Player markets | 0.5–1% |
| Outright tournament winner | Up to 3% total, placed early |
| Toss, novelty props | Skip |
Never increase stakes to chase losses from the previous day's matches. With a game almost every day, chasing can drain a season's budget in a week.
Integrity warning
Cricket has a long history of corruption cases, especially in lower-profile leagues and around "spot-fixing" of specific balls or overs. The ICC and national boards run anti-corruption units, but the lesson for punters is simple: avoid obscure matches with strange price moves, and ignore anyone on WhatsApp or Telegram selling "fixed" cricket tips. Those are scams.
Common mistakes
- Treating T20 favourites as banks.
- Betting innings totals before knowing the toss result and the pitch.
- Not reading rain and tie rules.
- Betting on Test match winners without considering the draw.
- Staying up all night for Australian games and betting tired.
Bet responsibly
Cricket has matches almost every day somewhere in the world, so it's easy to bet too often. Set a budget, use deposit limits and take days off. If betting stops being fun, talk to someone. My take
Cricket betting with crypto is very doable from Ghana once you understand the formats. T20 is fast and unpredictable, ODIs are steadier, and Tests bring the draw and the weather into play. Wait for the toss before betting totals, learn how rain and Super Over rules settle, use a stablecoin bankroll so prices don't swing your budget, and keep stakes small because there's a match almost every day. Cloudbet prices plenty of cricket, but it isn't licensed by Ghana's Gaming Commission, so you're relying on its Curaçao licence if anything goes wrong.
Questions punters ask
What is the best cricket format to bet on?
T20 has the most markets and matches, but it's the most unpredictable. ODIs are steadier. Many beginners start with one T20 league like the IPL.
What happens to my bet if rain stops a cricket match?
It depends on the market and the book. Match winner bets usually follow the official result, including Duckworth-Lewis-Stern, if enough overs are bowled; otherwise they're often void.
What time do IPL matches start in Ghana?
Evening IPL games usually start around 2:00 p.m. GMT and afternoon games around 10:00 a.m. GMT, but check each fixture.
Can I bet on cricket with USDT?
Some crypto sportsbooks accept USDT for cricket. Match the deposit network and send a small test first.
