My brother, inside bets are the part of the roulette table where the big payouts live: one number at 35 to 1, two numbers at 17 to 1, and so on down to six numbers at 5 to 1. They're also where new players get confused about chip placement and lose money faster than they expected. This guide goes through every inside bet one by one, shows exactly where the chip goes, what it pays and how often it should hit, and then works through the crypto side: unit sizes in USDT, losing streaks in real numbers and a session plan you can actually follow.

Inside vs outside: the quick difference
The roulette layout has two zones. The inside is the grid of numbers 1 to 36 plus the zero (or zeros). The outside is the boxes around the edge: red or black, odd or even, 1–18 or 19–36, dozens and columns.
- Inside bets cover one to six numbers. They hit less often and pay more.
- Outside bets cover 12 or 18 numbers. They hit more often and pay less.
On the same wheel, both zones carry the same house edge (with a couple of exceptions we'll cover). The difference is how bumpy the ride is, not how much you lose on average. For the full table including outside bets and systems, see how to bet on roulette and win. This page goes deep on the inside only.
How the number grid is laid out
The 36 numbers sit in 12 rows of three. Row one is 1, 2, 3; row two is 4, 5, 6; and so on up to 34, 35, 36. The zero sits above the first row (on American wheels, 0 and 00 sit side by side). Every inside bet is just a way of placing a chip on a number, on a line between numbers, or on a corner where numbers meet. Once you see the grid as rows and columns, chip placement becomes obvious. Online, the table usually highlights the numbers your chip covers when you hover or tap, which is a good habit to check before you confirm.
Every inside bet, its payout and its real chance
Chances below are for a single-zero (European) wheel with 37 pockets. Payouts are "to 1," meaning you get your stake back plus the payout.
| Bet | Numbers covered | Where the chip goes | Pays | Chance per spin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight up | 1 | In the middle of one number | 35 to 1 | 2.70% (1 in 37) |
| Split | 2 | On the line between two touching numbers | 17 to 1 | 5.41% |
| Street | 3 | At the outer edge of a row of three | 11 to 1 | 8.11% |
| Corner (square) | 4 | Where four numbers meet | 8 to 1 | 10.81% |
| Six line (double street) | 6 | On the outer edge where two rows meet | 5 to 1 | 16.22% |
| Trio | 3 (0-1-2 or 0-2-3) | Where the zero meets two numbers | 11 to 1 | 8.11% |
| First four | 4 (0-1-2-3) | Outer corner between 0 and the first row | 8 to 1 | 10.81% |
Check any of these with one rule: on a fair single-zero wheel, a bet covering n numbers "should" pay (36 ÷ n) − 1 to 1. A straight should pay 35 to 1 on a wheel with only 36 pockets. The extra zero is where the casino's edge comes from.
The house edge on inside bets
On a European wheel, every inside bet has the same edge: 2.70%. In plain money, for every 100 USDT you put through inside bets, you should expect to lose about 2.70 USDT over the long run. Here's the proof for a straight-up bet of 1 USDT:
- Win (1 in 37): +35 USDT.
- Lose (36 in 37): −1 USDT.
- Expected result: (1 × 35 − 36 × 1) ÷ 37 = −1 ÷ 37 ≈ −0.027 USDT per spin.
The same −1/37 comes out for splits, streets, corners and six lines. On an American double-zero wheel (38 pockets) the payouts are identical but there's one more losing pocket, so the edge jumps to 5.26% on most bets. One American bet is worse still: the top line (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) pays 6 to 1 and carries an edge of about 7.89%. If you see it, skip it.
French rules like "la partage" (half back on even-money bets when zero lands) only help outside even-money bets. Inside bets on a French table still have the normal 2.70% edge. So for inside players, the rule is simple: choose single-zero, avoid double-zero.
Why crypto changes the feel but not the maths
Playing inside bets with a crypto balance doesn't change payouts or the edge. It changes three practical things:
- Tiny unit sizes. Crypto tables often allow very small chips. That's helpful for inside play, because spreading a stake over several numbers multiplies your bet per spin.
- Balance currency. If your casino balance is in BTC, every win and loss is also exposed to BTC's price against the cedi. For roulette, a stablecoin like USDT keeps your session result about the game, not the coin.
- Speed. Online RNG tables can spin very fast. Fast play means more spins per hour, which means more expected loss per hour even though the edge per spin is the same. Live dealer tables are slower.
Some crypto casinos also run "provably fair" in-house games that let you verify each result with a hash. Live dealer roulette is filmed with a real wheel instead. Neither changes the edge; they are just different ways of trusting the result. For funding, see how to deposit at a crypto casino.
Coverage patterns: what happens when you spread chips
Most inside players don't bet one number. They spread chips across several bets to cover more of the wheel. That changes how often you win and how much each win pays, but never the average loss. Three illustrative patterns, all on a European wheel:
Pattern A: five straight-up numbers
- Stake: 1 USDT on each of 5 numbers = 5 USDT per spin.
- Hit chance: 5 ÷ 37 ≈ 13.5%.
- When one hits: +35 on the winner, −4 on the others = +31 USDT.
- Average result: 5 × −0.027 ≈ −0.135 USDT per spin.
Pattern B: four corners (16 numbers, no overlap)
- Stake: 1 USDT on each of 4 corners = 4 USDT per spin.
- Hit chance: 16 ÷ 37 ≈ 43.2%.
- When one hits: +8 on the winner, −3 on the others = +5 USDT.
- Average result: 0.432 × 5 − 0.568 × 4 ≈ −0.108 USDT per spin (= 4 × −0.027).
Pattern C: two six lines plus a straight
- Stake: 2 USDT on each of two non-overlapping six lines, plus 1 USDT on a straight outside them = 5 USDT.
- Six line hits (12 ÷ 37 ≈ 32.4%): +10 on that line, −2 and −1 on the others = +7 USDT.
- Straight hits (1 in 37): +35, −4 on the lines = +31 USDT.
- Average result: 5 × −0.027 ≈ −0.135 USDT per spin.
See the pattern? Average loss always equals your total stake per spin × 2.70%. People sometimes "cover" 30 or more numbers and feel safe because they win most spins. They do win often, but each win is small and the uncovered numbers still take everything. The edge is unchanged.
Losing streaks in real numbers
This is the part that surprises people most. Here's the chance that a single straight-up number doesn't land at all over a run of spins:
| Spins | Chance your number never hits |
|---|---|
| 10 | 76.0% |
| 20 | 57.8% |
| 37 | 36.3% |
| 74 | 13.2% |
| 100 | 6.5% |
| 150 | 1.6% |
Read that again: even after 37 spins, about one time in three your number still hasn't shown up. "It's due" is not a thing; the wheel has no memory, and every spin is 1 in 37. Other inside bets have shorter droughts, but they still happen: a split misses 20 spins in a row about 32.9% of the time, a corner misses 10 in a row about 31.9% of the time, and a six line misses 5 in a row about 41.3% of the time.
The practical lesson: size your chips so a long drought doesn't end your session in ten minutes.

Sizing units for inside play
A simple rule many careful players use: your total stake per spin should be no more than about 1–2% of the session budget. That gives you room for 50 to 100 spins of bad luck.
| Session budget | Max stake per spin (2%) | Example spread | Expected cost of 100 spins |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 USDT | 0.20 USDT | 2 corners × 0.10 | about 0.54 USDT |
| 25 USDT | 0.50 USDT | 5 straights × 0.10 | about 1.35 USDT |
| 50 USDT | 1.00 USDT | 2 six lines × 0.40 + 1 straight × 0.20 | about 2.70 USDT |
"Expected cost" is the long-run average (stake per spin × 100 × 2.70%). Any single session can land far above or below it, which is exactly why the budget needs room. Check the table's minimum chip size first; if the minimum is too big for your budget, find another table or lower the number of bets you spread.
A sensible inside-bet session plan
- Pick a single-zero table. Confirm there's only one zero on the wheel graphic.
- Set your budget in cedis first, convert to USDT, and move only that amount to the casino balance.
- Choose one coverage pattern and stick to it. Switching patterns after every loss is how sessions spiral.
- Set two exits: a loss limit (the whole budget) and a win target (for example, +50% of the budget). If you hit either, stop.
- Use a spin limit, for example 100 spins, so a slow drip of small losses doesn't stretch all night.
- Withdraw any profit straight away rather than leaving it "for next time." Check the network every time. Our crypto withdrawal guide covers the steps.
A worked session, start to finish
Here's how a disciplined 25 USDT session might look with Pattern B scaled down (illustrative only; real results will differ every time).
- Setup: single-zero RNG table, minimum chip 0.10 USDT. Four corners at 0.10 each = 0.40 USDT per spin, which is 1.6% of the budget. Win target +12 USDT, loss limit 25 USDT, spin limit 120.
- What a hit looks like: one corner lands, it pays 0.80 plus the 0.10 back, and the other three chips lose 0.30, so the spin nets +0.50 USDT.
- What a miss looks like: all four chips lose, −0.40 USDT.
- Long-run average for the whole session: 120 spins × 0.40 × 2.70% ≈ −1.30 USDT. That's the price of the entertainment if things go exactly average.
Over 120 spins you'd expect roughly 52 hits and 68 misses, but streaks of six or seven misses in a row are normal with this pattern. Because each spin risks only 0.40, those streaks cost a few USDT instead of the whole budget. The key decisions are made before the first spin: the pattern, the chip size and the three exits. During the session, your only job is to follow them. If you feel the urge to "go big" on a single number after a bad run, that's the signal to close the table, not to raise the stake.
Popular myths about inside bets
- "Hot numbers are more likely." Recent results screens are entertainment. On a fair wheel, every number is 1 in 37 every spin.
- "Covering more numbers is safer." It's smoother, not safer. Average loss is still 2.70% of everything you stake.
- "Doubling up on a number will get it back." Doubling after losses is a fast route to the table maximum or an empty balance. Our page on the betting strategy where you double each time shows why.
- "Sectors near the zero hit more." On a fair wheel, no section of the wheel is favoured.
- "Crypto tables pay better." Payouts are the standard 35, 17, 11, 8 and 5 to 1. What matters is single-zero vs double-zero, not the currency.
Inside bets vs other casino games
If you like the idea of small stakes with occasional big wins, inside roulette on a single-zero wheel is a reasonably transparent choice: you know the exact edge and payout of every bet. Slots can feel similar but their return figures vary by game and are harder to check. Blackjack played with basic strategy can have a lower edge than roulette but asks more of you on each hand; our crypto blackjack guide explains it. Whatever you choose, treat it as paid entertainment with a known price, not a way to earn.
Legal and safety notes for Ghana
The Gaming Commission of Ghana licenses casinos and betting operators under Act 721. Offshore crypto casinos like Cloudbet are not licensed by it, so local regulator protection doesn't apply if there's a dispute. Only use money you can afford to lose, never borrow to play, and keep records of deposits and withdrawals. Our is betting legal in Ghana page covers the bigger picture.
Know when to stop
Inside bets can swing hard both ways, and a big straight-up hit can make you feel you've "figured it out." You haven't; nobody has. My take
Crypto inside bets are simple once you see the grid: one to six numbers, 35 down to 5 to 1, and the same 2.70% edge on a single-zero wheel whatever pattern you build. Play single-zero only, keep the balance in USDT, size your chips so a 50-spin drought doesn't finish you, and walk away when you hit your target. My brother, the best inside bet is the one placed with a budget you've already made peace with losing.
Questions punters ask
What are inside bets in roulette?
Inside bets are bets on the number grid itself: straight up (1 number, 35 to 1), split (2 numbers, 17 to 1), street (3, 11 to 1), corner (4, 8 to 1) and six line (6, 5 to 1). Trio and first four bets that include the zero are also inside bets.
Do inside bets have a higher house edge than outside bets?
No. On a single-zero wheel almost every bet, inside or outside, has a 2.70% edge. On a double-zero wheel it's 5.26%, and the American top line bet is worse at about 7.89%.
Does playing roulette with crypto change the odds?
No. Payouts and the house edge are the same. Crypto mainly changes chip sizes, play speed and, if your balance is in a volatile coin like BTC, your result in cedis.
How much should I stake per spin on inside bets?
A cautious guide is no more than 1–2% of your session budget per spin in total, so you can survive long losing runs. For example, about 0.20 USDT per spin on a 10 USDT budget.
Is Cloudbet licensed in Ghana?
No. Cloudbet holds a Curaçao licence and is not licensed by the Gaming Commission of Ghana.
