Correct score is the bet that turns GH₵10 into GH₵80 or GH₵100 when you call the exact result, and that's exactly why it pulls people in. But it's also one of the hardest markets in football and one where bookmakers take a big cut. Before you pay any Telegram "expert" for tonight's correct score, let me show you, my brother, how the numbers really work: how often a 1-0 or 1-1 actually happens, how to build your own score grid in five minutes, when covering two or three scores makes sense, and why there's no such thing as a guaranteed correct score.
18+ only. This is general information, not a promise of winnings. All scores, chances and prices below are illustrative examples from a simple model, not predictions for real matches. Betting in Ghana is regulated by the Gaming Commission of Ghana under the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721). The quick facts
- A correct score bet wins only if the final score matches your pick exactly, for example 2-1 to the home side.
- It's normally settled on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalties are not included unless the market says so.
- Even the most likely score in a typical match only happens around 11% to 16% of the time.
- Bookmakers usually build a large margin into correct score markets, much bigger than on the match result or goals lines.
- Correct score works best as a small-stake bet based on your own goals estimate, never as a "sure" bet or an accumulator.
How often do common scores happen?
Most people guess that a big favourite will win 2-0 or 3-1 and stop there. The truth is that football scores spread out a lot. Analysts often model goals with something called the Poisson model, which only needs one input per team: the number of goals you expect them to score. From that, you can work out the chance of every scoreline.
Here's a score grid for a made-up match where the home side is expected to score 1.5 goals and the away side 1.1. Each cell shows the chance, then the fair odds (1 ÷ chance):
| Home \ Away | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 7.4% (13.5) | 8.2% (12.2) | 4.5% (22.3) | 1.6% (60.7) |
| 1 | 11.1% (9.0) | 12.3% (8.2) | 6.7% (14.8) | 2.5% (40.5) |
| 2 | 8.4% (12.0) | 9.2% (10.9) | 5.1% (19.8) | 1.9% (53.9) |
| 3 | 4.2% (23.9) | 4.6% (21.8) | 2.5% (39.6) | 0.9% (107.9) |
The scores in this table add up to 91%; the other 9% is everything with four or more goals for one side. Even though the home side is favourite, about 46% to win, 26% for the draw and 28% for the away side, the single most likely score is 1-1 at 12.3%. The 1-0 is close behind at 11.1%. That's typical: low scores dominate, and draws are more common in the exact-score market than people expect.
A low-scoring match looks very different
Now a cagey match: home expected goals 1.1, away 0.8.
| Home \ Away | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 15.0% (6.7) | 12.0% (8.4) | 4.8% (20.9) | 1.3% (78.4) |
| 1 | 16.5% (6.1) | 13.2% (7.6) | 5.3% (19.0) | 1.4% (71.2) |
| 2 | 9.0% (11.1) | 7.2% (13.8) | 2.9% (34.5) | 0.8% (129.5) |
| 3 | 3.3% (30.1) | 2.7% (37.7) | 1.1% (94.2) | 0.3% (353.2) |
Here the 1-0 is the top score at 16.5% and the 0-0 is right behind at 15.0%. The draw as a whole jumps to about 31%. So the first step in any correct score bet is not "who wins?" but "how many goals do I expect?". Get that wrong and every score you pick is priced wrong.
One more thing: the simple model slightly under-counts low-scoring draws. Research going back to the 1990s found that 0-0 and 1-1 happen a little more often than independent Poisson predicts, so many modellers nudge those cells up a touch and the 1-0 and 0-1 down.
How to build your own score grid
- Get the league's average home goals and away goals per match from a reliable stats site, using at least a season of data.
- Work out each team's attack strength (goals scored per game ÷ league average) and defence weakness (goals conceded per game ÷ league average), separately for home and away.
- Home expected goals = league home average × home attack × away defence. Away expected goals = league away average × away attack × home defence.
- Adjust for team news: a missing striker might cut a side's expected goals by 10% to 15%; a weakened back line pushes the opponent's up.
- Put the two numbers into a spreadsheet with the POISSON.DIST function (Excel and Google Sheets both have it) and multiply the home and away chances for each score.
It takes five minutes once the sheet is set up, and it's far better than gut feeling. If you want a refresher on turning odds into chances, see our guide on how to read betting odds in Ghana or use the odds calculator.
The margin problem
Here's where most correct score punters lose without noticing. Below are example bookmaker prices for the 1.5 v 1.1 match above, compared with the model:
| Score | Bookmaker odds | Implied chance | Model chance | Average return per GH₵1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-0 | 8.00 | 12.5% | 11.1% | −10.9% |
| 1-1 | 7.00 | 14.3% | 12.3% | −14.2% |
| 2-1 | 9.50 | 10.5% | 9.2% | −12.7% |
| 2-0 | 10.00 | 10.0% | 8.4% | −16.4% |
| 0-0 | 11.00 | 9.1% | 7.4% | −18.3% |
| 0-1 | 11.00 | 9.1% | 8.2% | −10.1% |
| 1-2 | 13.00 | 7.7% | 6.7% | −12.4% |
| 2-2 | 17.00 | 5.9% | 5.1% | −14.1% |
| 3-0 | 19.00 | 5.3% | 4.2% | −20.6% |
| 3-1 | 19.00 | 5.3% | 4.6% | −12.7% |
Just these ten scores imply 89.6% between them, while the model gives them 77.1%. Spread across the whole market, that's a margin many times bigger than you'd pay on a main match-result line. If both the bookmaker and you agree on the goal expectations, every correct score bet loses 10% to 20% on average. Compare that with the few percent you'd lose on a sharp 1X2 or Asian handicap price.
Where value can come from
Because the margin is so big, value in correct score only appears when you disagree with the market about how many goals each team will score. Say team news breaks that both first-choice strikers are out, and you now rate the match at 1.3 home goals and 1.0 away, while the prices above haven't moved yet:
| Score | Odds | Your new chance | Average return per GH₵1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-0 | 8.00 | 13.0% | +4.3% |
| 0-0 | 11.00 | 10.0% | +10.3% |
| 0-1 | 11.00 | 10.0% | +10.3% |
| 2-1 | 9.50 | 8.5% | −19.5% |
| 3-0 | 19.00 | 3.7% | −30.2% |
The low scores become value and the high scores get even worse. That's the general pattern: if you have a real reason to expect fewer goals than the market, low scores are your friend; if you expect more, look at the 2-1, 2-2 and 3-1 type scores. In practice, markets react to team news fast, so moments like this don't last long. And if your "reason" is just a feeling, there's no edge at all.
Covering two or three scores
A popular approach is to back several scores in the same match so you have a bigger chance of a win. Done properly, you split your stake so every score pays back the same amount. This is called dutching.
Example: GH₵30 spread over 1-0, 2-0 and 2-1 at the prices above.
| Score | Odds | Stake | Returns if it lands |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-0 | 8.00 | GH₵11.35 | GH₵90.84 |
| 2-0 | 10.00 | GH₵9.08 | GH₵90.84 |
| 2-1 | 9.50 | GH₵9.56 | GH₵90.84 |
Your combined price is about 3.03, and the model says the three scores together land 28.7% of the time. That gives an average return of about −13.1%: you win more often, but you still pay the margin on every piece. Covering scores changes how bumpy the ride is; it doesn't fix bad prices. If you only like "home win by one or two goals", a handicap or a "winning margin" market may give you the same idea at a much smaller margin.
Half-time correct score
Fewer goals are scored before the break, which makes the half-time score more predictable but also squeezes it towards 0-0. In the 1.5 v 1.1 match, if about 45% of goals come in the first half:
- 0-0 at half-time: about 31.0%
- 1-0 at half-time: about 20.9%
- 1-1 at half-time: about 10.4%
Half-time correct score is often priced with the same heavy margin, and the 0-0 is usually short. It's a niche market; treat it with even more caution. Half-time/full-time bets work in a similar way, and we cover them in our half-time/full-time tips guide.

Live correct score
Once the game is under way, the grid shrinks because time is running out. Example: the home side leads 1-0 after 60 minutes in the same match, with a third of the game left and goals arriving at a steady rate:
| Final score | Chance from here | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|
| 1-0 (no more goals) | 42.0% | 2.38 |
| 2-0 | 21.0% | 4.76 |
| 1-1 | 15.4% | 6.49 |
| 2-1 | 7.7% | 12.99 |
Real games have extra twists: teams protecting a lead sit deeper, the trailing side throws players forward, and more goals tend to come late. Live correct score prices react within seconds, and your stream may run behind. Bet small and never chase.
Why correct score accumulators are a lottery
Joining correct scores together sounds like a route to huge wins. Say you pick three scores at 7.50 each and each has a generous 12% chance. The combined odds are about 422, but the chance all three land is 0.12 × 0.12 × 0.12, about 0.17%, or roughly 1 in 580. On average you lose about 27% of every cedi staked. If it's a bit of fun with money you'd spend on a lottery ticket, fine. As a strategy, it's not. Our accumulator calculator will show you the same thing for any slip.
How long losing runs last
Even a correct score bettor with a small edge loses most of the time. If you back scores at around 9.00 that land 1 time in 9, the chance of going without a single win is:
- After 10 bets: about 30.8%
- After 20 bets: about 9.5%
- After 30 bets: about 2.9%
- After 50 bets: about 0.3%
So a run of 10 or more losers in a row is completely normal and says almost nothing about your skill. That's why stakes must be small: 0.5% to 1% of your monthly betting budget per correct score bet is plenty.
The fixed correct score scam
Let's be very clear. People on Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram who sell "fixed correct scores", "sure 2-1 HT/FT" or "inside information" are scammers. Common signs:
- They ask for payment by mobile money or crypto before giving the "fixed" game.
- They show edited betting slips or screenshots of huge wins.
- They promise refunds "if it fails", then ask for more money for the next "fixed" game.
- They send different scores to different buyers, so a few people win by chance and become their advertising.
Real match-fixing is a crime, and anyone who truly had that information wouldn't sell it to strangers for GH₵200. If you're asked to pay for a fixed game, don't. Block and report the account.
Practical correct score tips
- Start from expected goals, not from the winner. The total and the split between teams decide the grid.
- Respect the 1-1 and the 1-0. In ordinary matches these are often the two most likely results.
- Compare prices. Correct score odds differ a lot between bookmakers; a 9.00 versus 7.50 on the same score is a huge difference.
- Use team news. The rare value usually comes right after line-ups or injuries change the goal picture.
- Check the rules. Normal time only, own goals count, and void rules for abandoned matches vary.
- Keep stakes tiny and records honest. Track your estimated chance, the price and the result.
- Consider simpler markets. If your real view is "low-scoring home win", an under goals line or a handicap may express it more cheaply.
A worked example from start to finish
A made-up league match. League averages: 1.40 home goals and 1.05 away goals per game. Home side attack 1.15, away side defence 1.05; away side attack 0.95, home side defence 0.90.
- Home expected goals: 1.40 × 1.15 × 1.05 ≈ 1.69.
- Away expected goals: 1.05 × 0.95 × 0.90 ≈ 0.90.
- From the grid, 1-0 comes out at about 12.7%, fair odds about 7.9; 2-0 at about 10.7%, fair about 9.3; 1-1 at about 11.4%, fair about 8.8.
- The bookmaker offers 1-0 at 7.50, 2-0 at 9.00 and 1-1 at 6.50. All three are shorter than fair. No bet.
- Another bookmaker has 2-0 at 10.00. That's a small edge, about +7% on your numbers (10.7% × 10.00 − 1). A GH₵10 stake at most.
Most of the time the answer will be "no bet". That's fine. Passing on bad prices is part of winning less badly, and sometimes winning.
Crypto and Cloudbet

Questions punters ask
What is the most common correct score in football?
In ordinary matches 1-1 and 1-0 are usually the most likely scores, each typically around 11% to 16%. In low-scoring matches 0-0 also rises near the top.
How do I predict a correct score?
Estimate how many goals each team is likely to score, then use a Poisson calculation in a spreadsheet to turn those numbers into chances for every scoreline. Compare those chances with the odds.
Are fixed correct score tips real?
No. Anyone selling fixed correct scores on Telegram, WhatsApp or social media is running a scam. Don't send them money.
Is it smart to bet on several correct scores in one match?
It increases how often you win, but you still pay the bookmaker's margin on every score. It only helps if the individual prices are good.
Does correct score include extra time?
Usually not. Most correct score markets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Check the rules for cup matches.
How much should I stake on correct score bets?
Keep it small, around 0.5% to 1% of your betting budget per bet, because long losing runs are normal even with good picks.
